Proposed Resolutions

We’re bringing forward three proposed resolutions at the next Town Board meeting, all dealing with public health and safety and giving more control and enforcement at the local level. The resolutions are enforcing the existing statutes prohibiting plowing snow across town roads, standards for dog licensing and public health and safety related to dogs, and licensing of new and expanded livestock facilities that will have 500 or more animal units. You can see the details in the attached resolutions. If adopted, we will develop an ordinance with more detailed language for approval at the October Town Board meeting. As always, if you have any questions please let us know.

July 2017 Updates

Fire Protection Contract Renewals
Earlier this year, we updated the Fire Protection Contracts, that were set to expire, for the surrounding townships that we support. Thanks to Berlin, Rib Falls, and Stettin for their continued support. Here are some key figures from those updated contracts:

Hamburg Fire Department supports 751 total addresses in their fire contract area, broken down by town below (provided by Preston VandeVoort, Marathon County GIS Specialist, on 12/2/16):

  • Hamburg: 419 / 55.80%
  • Berlin: 179 / 23.83%
  • Rib Falls: 86 / 11.45%
  • Stettin: 67 / 8.92%

The Town of Hamburg has an annual budget of approximately $80,000/year that is allocated to the Hamburg Fire Department:

  • Machinery Fund: $27,000
  • Insurance: $5,500
  • Operating Costs: $47,500
    • Cardtrol: $1,794
    • Fire Inspections: $2,375
    • LP: $1,683
    • Supplies/Services: $16,205 (includes maintenance, repairs, training material, and supplies used for duty)
    • Training: $476
    • Wages: $17,467
    • Turn-out Gear: $7,500

Broken down by the percentages listed above, the $80,000 annual budget comes to the following cost for each town:

  • Hamburg: $44,640
  • Berlin: $19,064 (paid $13,142 in 2016)
  • Rib Falls: $9,160 (paid $6,475 in 2016)
  • Stettin: $7,136 (paid $6,000 in 2016)

As you can see, these updates will result in approximately $10,000 of additional revenue to offset annual fire department expenses. These updated contracts more fairly break down the annual expenses based on the supported area and ultimately save Hamburg money to use towards roads and other services.

Upcoming Road Work
With the nice weather, nearly all the culvert requests and upgrades have been complete. If you need a culvert installed please call Eric Vogel. You should expect to see some new granite being placed on the roads soon. We will be fixing patches on 3rd, 5th & 7th Lanes with diabase & then adding granite to the north-south running roads, north of Hwy. F, starting with 3rd, 5th, 7th, & 9th & seeing how far we get with the road budget.

Monthly Road Meeting
The next road meeting is August 7, 2017 at 8:15am at the Town Shed. We discuss upcoming road work, vehicle repairs, and anything else pertaining to the roads. Your input is always welcome.

June 2017 Updates
Hope you made it out to the Tractor Pull! The Fire Fighters and First Responders put on a great event.

Cigarette, Operator, and Liquor Licenses
Last month we renewed Cigarette, Operator, and Liquor licenses for Eddies Bar, Bletsoe’s Cheese, and Half Moon Hill Farm and Winery.

Storm Damage and Upcoming Road Work
As most of you know, there was a lot of damage to the town roads after the storms two weeks again. We want to thank Lee and Lyle for getting out there right away and getting everything fixed and graded. There is still some to do yet, but everything is looking much better. Thanks for all the calls too letting us know what areas needed work. If you need any work done to your driveway or a culvert installed, please reach out to the supervisors.

High Speed Internet Expansion
Unfortunately, it looks like the high speed Internet expansion that was schedule for the 536/539 phone area for this year has been delayed until 2018. We’re in conversations with Frontier about grant options and trying to confirm their timeline. We’ll keep pushing to get this for our Town and keep you updated.

May 2017 Updates

May 2017 Updates

It was great to see everyone that attended the Annual Meeting. As always, there were some good ideas and items that we will continue to work on to better serve you. We’ll be posting these updates every 1-3 months, as there is important information to relay. Please check back here to see them or sign up for email updates to have them sent directly to you.

Dust Control

Number one on the Annual Meeting follow-up list is figuring out dust control and how we can manage that process internally here in Hamburg. Ideally, we’d like to cover all the diabase roads every year, not only to make them last longer, but to make them better and safer to drive. Right now, that’s just not possible at the price it costs, $20,000 – $30,000, to have someone do them all for us. Until then, we’ll be experimenting with several options and will continue to cover new roads and anyone that requests dust control to be placed in front of their house. The deadline for that is May 31st.

Hosting Western Town’s Association

Hamburg hosted the quarterly Western Town’s Association meeting in April and received a lot of great feedback about our facilities. They were all very impressed by the size and cleanliness. Another reason to be proud of all that we have here in Hamburg!

Theresa Wetzsteon, Marathon County District Attorney, addresses the Western Town’s Association in Hamburg.

County Wide Addressing

During that meeting, we spoke with Kurt Gibbs, Marathon County Board Chair, and he said the county wide re-addressing is moving forward despite some of the recent lawsuits and setbacks.

With that said and your feedback, we proposed the following road names to replace our current road names when the time comes, likely in 2018. Keep in mind, these are only proposals and not finalized. Also, if you don’t see a road listed here, we were not asked to provide a replacement and it may stay the same.

3rd Lane – Schoolhouse Lane
5th Lane – Submitted by Rib Falls (Deer Creek Lane)
6th Lane – Fromm Lane
7th Lane – Einert Creek Lane
9th Lane – Grass Creek Lane
10th Lane – Kampmeyer Lane
11th Lane – Nieman Lane
12th Lane – McGinnis Creek Lane
13th Lane – Halsburg Lane
County Line Road – Silver Fox Road
North Lane – Submitted by Rib Falls (Skye Falls Trail)
E. Townline Road – Degner Street (Requested by County)
Washington Drive – Wilde Drive
Naugart Drive (West of 7th Lane) – Big Rib River Drive

The next Town Board meeting is June 19, 2017 at 6:30. The agenda is attached and you can also find agendas and other announcements each month at the Town Hall/Municipal Building, Town Shed, and Eddie’s Bar.
